The second-hand marketplace Users Voice Anger About Sizing Modifications

Vinted users have been reacting angrily after an update resulted in items being listed as the wrong size.

The second-hand shopping app has updated its measurement guidelines for women's and children's clothes without notifying all users about the change.

Online Platforms Response

Numerous buyers and vendors have taken to social media stating that platform listings now display a different size category compared to what was initially listed due to the recalibration.

Vinted explained the revised method more closely matches comparable marketplaces.

They have suggested members to check their listings and adjust the sizing manually when needed, causing user dissatisfaction.

Size Classification Changes

Previously, the sizes had both numerical and alphabetical indicators, such as S/8 or M/10.

The updated approach includes a letter and a range like S/UK 8-10.

For certain items, the measurements have been reclassified - like an L measurement used to be a 12 but is now a UK 16-18.

Shopper Accounts

A fashion influencer, who makes TikTok content about plus-size fashion, stated the update "complicates both purchasing and selling".

"Rarely do manufacturers list XL as sizes 20-22," the way the service now categorizes.

A different member, from Glasgow, explained products she uploaded on Vinted with size 14 labels were showing in the marketplace as size 20–22.

"Should someone sized 20-22 purchase these they're going to be very disappointed," she said.

Manual Updates

A different user, located in England, said she had been left angered because the modification necessitated personal updates the sizing for "all her products".

"Personally, this is quite irritating, as I'm chronically ill and Vinted sales have been crucial after experiencing income reduction," she explained.

Platform Context

The app has more than 100 million members, with 18 million British users.

It has emerged as a preferred choice to second-hand platforms like eBay and Depop.

This is not the initial instance when a surprising modification to the app has proved unpopular: previously, the platform withdrew an update concerning shipment methods due to shopper criticism.
